Campo Tures is divided into several hamlets, including Molini di Tures, a small resort, Caminata, and Moritzen, the ancient center of the city with the church dedicated to St. Maurice. Along the village flows the Aurino stream, while nearby you can find the Riva waterfalls worth visiting with an easy walk through the woods.
Regarding the climate, from a legislative point of view, the municipality of Campo Tures falls within the "Classification of Italian municipalities' climate," with 3913 degree days. Therefore, heating is permitted all year round without time restrictions.
The origins of the name Campo Tures
Have you ever wondered where the name of this place comes from? While "Campo" comes from the Italianization of the German term "Sand" which actually means "sand, arena," the toponym "Tures" is attested for the first time around 1050-1060 with terms such as "Tufres," "Tuvers," "Tufers," "Touveres," and "Taufers." It is thought to derive from a term tob-, tub-, tuf- meaning "ravine."
The literal translation of "Sand in Taufers" would be "Tures' sand," indicating that the area was a floodplain and that the Aurino stream used to flood the area.
The history of Campo Tures
The history of Campo Tures is closely linked to the medieval lords of Taufers, whose most notable representative was Hugo von Taufers, who was particularly close to King Rudolf I of Habsburg. The family was loyal to the church and was a feudal lord of the Episcopal Principality of Brixen.
Between 1908 and 1957, the locality was connected to Brunico through the Brunico-Campo Tures railway. The municipal coat of arms, adopted in 1967 on the proposal of the heraldic commission of the association for the care of the homeland's heritage, is very similar to that of the Lords of Taufers, who were the original owners of the eponymous castle around which the village developed.

If you visit this place, you cannot miss its beautiful religious architecture. In particular, we recommend visiting the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, a parish church built-in Gothic style between 1503 and 1527, designed by Valentin Winkler, the Church of Sant'Anna, a parish church located in the hamlet of Acereto, the Church of San Wolfgang, a parish church in Riva di Tures, and the Church of Santa Valburga, also located in Riva di Tures.
Civil architecture
In addition to religious architecture, we remind you of the residence of Neumelans Castle at the entrance of the village, a late Renaissance building from 1582-1582, built by Hans Fieger, who was the mining judge of the area, and then the property of the patrician families of Zeiller, Ottenthal, and finally Schober.
