Serradarce
Welcome to Serradarce: a friendly description of the geographical hamlet of Campagna (Italy) in the province of Salerno
Are you ready to explore a small Italian hamlet that despite its recent origin has many stories to tell? Serradarce, located 380 meters above sea level, is a hidden gem among the hills of the Picentini mountains and the Acerra river valley.
Physical geography
This hamlet has an enviable location along the SS91 "Valle del Sele" and offers spectacular views of the valley. With 447 inhabitants, it is a small town that will make you fall in love with nature and tranquility.
History
Serradarce has an interesting history that dates back to the Bronze Age when poorly-made funerary artifacts were found. However, the settlement had significant urban growth only at the end of the 19th century with the construction of the "via del grano" and the church of Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio.
Serradarce further developed when its civil status office, post office and elementary school opened in 1900. The Tuoro-Serradarce station (Salerno-Potenza railway) increased its development, but after the construction of the Salerno-Reggio Calabria and the closure of the railway station in 1960, the hamlet began to decline.
Monuments and places of interest
Despite its recent origin, Serradarce has some places of historical interest such as the old church of Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio, a rectangular building with a single nave. Also of particular interest is a public fountain located near the old church, dating back to 1929 and used in the past as a public laundry.
Serradarce also has several places of worship including the new church of Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio, the Temple of Worship of the Glorious Alberto (run by the charismatic renewal of the servants of Cristo Vivo with Father Michele Vassallo) and the Valle del Sele Evangelical Church.
Society
Serradarce is a predominantly Catholic hamlet and is the place of worship of the Glorious Alberto, an extra-canonical religious phenomenon that began in the 1950s. The patron saint of the hamlet since 1950 is Maria Santissima Immacolata, whose statue is venerated in the parish church. The feast takes place on December 7th and 8th, with Holy Masses and a solemn procession.
Of particular importance and aesthetic value is the effigy of the patron saint, the Immaculate, of which the author or creation school is not known, but which, by analogies and comparisons with other madonnas, dates back to the eighteenth century.
Conclusions
Serradarce is a small geographical hamlet that does not lose sight of its history and traditions. The tranquility of the Italian countryside and the beauty of its views will make you fall in love with this hidden gem among the hills of Salerno. If you decide to visit Serradarce, be prepared for an authentic and surprising experience!
