History

Formerly called S. Abbondio, the fraction takes its name from the Camaldolese hermitage built there in the 16th century. Its proximity to the SS 91 della Valle del Sele has allowed Camaldoli to become an important crossing point for connections between Campagna and the municipalities of Alto Sele.

In 1980, the Irpinia earthquake destroyed the civil buildings and the church of Santa Maria Domenica, built in the 1950s.
