Camerota

Welcome to Marina di Camerota!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Marina di Camerota, a charming place located in the heart of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park in the province of Salerno, Italy. This small but fascinating town is the southernmost inhabited center in Campania, and is located on the 40th north latitude. Here's everything you need to know before visiting!

The History of Marina di Camerota

Marina di Camerota dates back to 1848, when Ferdinando II of the Two Sicilies decided to add a group of houses along the Camerota coastline, equating them to a town, and calling it Marina di Camerota. In the past, many people left the city to emigrate to South America and Venezuela, which led to the construction of a statue in honor of the Venezuelan liberator Simón Bolívar. Bolivar's name was also given to the main street of the village and the local cinema.

Monuments and Places of Interest

There is a lot to see in Marina di Camerota. One of the first places you should visit is the Marchesale Palace, once the summer residence of the Marquises of Camerota. Unfortunately, the palace is now in a state of disrepair.

But the real attraction that makes Marina di Camerota an interesting place for paleontologists and archaeologists are the numerous caves scattered throughout the area. For paleontology enthusiasts, a visit to the Paleontological Caves is recommended, where important archaeological finds from the Stone Age are found.

Among all the caves that can be visited, the Fish Cave, the Autaro Cave, and the Caprara Cave definitely deserve a mention. Not far from the town center is the Calanca Cave, which unfortunately collapsed and no longer exists.

There are also caves on the coast that can only be reached by sea: the Santa Maria Cave and the Noglie Cave are certainly the most popular.

Places on the Coast of Marina di Camerota

The coastal area of Marina di Camerota includes to the west the areas and towns of the Cyclops Cave (which housed a famous nightclub), Cefalo Cove, Finocchiara Cove, Arconte Cove (with an adjacent island) and Calanca. To the east, on the other hand, are Lentiscelle.

How to Get to Marina di Camerota

Marina di Camerota is located along State Road 562, east of Palinuro (Centola), just 5 km from Camerota and about 90 from Salerno. If you love to travel by car or want to rent one, I recommend taking State Road 562, a road that crosses the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, offering breathtaking views.

Conclusion

I hope this brief presentation of Marina di Camerota has inspired you to visit this beautiful place. If you are a lover of nature, paleontology, and archaeology, you cannot miss the caves we have talked about. If instead you are a lover of the sea and beaches, the coast of Marina di Camerota offers a unique experience that you will not easily forget. In any case, we wish you an explosion of emotions during your visit!
