Camerata Nuova
Welcome to Camerata Nuova!
Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk to you about Camerata Nuova, an Italian town located in the metropolitan city of Rome Capitale in Lazio. The town has a population of 407 and is surrounded by the regional natural park of Monti Simbruini, a charming area on the eastern border of Lazio and Abruzzo.
A territory rich in mountains and forests
Camerata Nuova is located at 810 meters above sea level on the Colle di Mezzo mountain, surrounded by forests and the imposing presence of Mount Autore, the third highest peak in the Simbruini Mountains, at 1855 meters. The municipal area is characterized by a diversity of altitudes: in the south-eastern part is Mount La Monnella, about 1755 meters high, and heading south you reach the karst plain of Camposecco which is located at an altitude of 1350 meters.
The municipal territory borders five municipalities, including Subiaco and Cervara di Roma. The climate of Camerata Nuova falls within zone E with an average of 2921 GR/G.
The origin of the name
The name Camerata Nuova derives from the fact that the original village was partially dug into the rock, the so-called "camerae". The original village is first mentioned with the name of Camorata in the Regesto sublacense of the XI century.
A difficult history
Camerata Nuova was built in 1859, after the old village of Camerata, located on a limestone cliff 400 meters higher, was destroyed by a fire. The original village, known in the Middle Ages as "Rocca in Camerata", was donated to the Montecassino Abbey by Countess of Carsoli Aldegrima, widow of Berardi Rainaldo who died during the first crusade. In 1872, the village was officially named Camerata Nuova.
Places of interest
Camerata Nuova offers numerous attractions for visitors. Among the religious buildings, there is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the ruins of the lost church of San Salvatore. Among the archaeological sites, we find the ruins of Camerata Vecchia, which recall the original town. The regional natural park of the Apennines - Monti Simbruini is a protected area with charming natural beauty, where you can go for walks and hikes. Mount Livata, the Fosso Fiojo and the Camposecco Plateau are beautiful destinations for nature lovers.
A small, welcoming community
Camerata Nuova is a town with a population of about 400 inhabitants, with 19 individuals of foreign nationality as of December 31, 2010, mainly from Romania. The town comes to life during traditional religious festivals such as the Feast of Santa Maria Assunta, the patron saint of the town, and the village festival.
