Physical Geography

Camastra is located between the municipalities of Naro, Palma di Montechiaro, and Licata, about 25 km from the provincial capital. It stands at 340 meters above sea level, in an area with a mild and low-humidity climate. The sandy beaches of the sea are easily reachable in just 20/25 minutes.

History

The origins of Camastra date back to the time of King Frederick II of Sicily, who ceded the territory to the nobleman Galvano Bonfiglio. Over the years, the fiefdom changed hands several times until, in 1620, Giacomo Lucchesi founded it, giving it the name of Camastra. Initially, Camastra was nothing more than a farm where outcasts from neighboring municipalities found refuge, but in a few years, it turned into a residential center that was part of the Comarca of Naro.

Monuments and Places of Interest

If you're passionate about military architecture, you can't miss the Castellazzo di Camastra, an ancient fortress located on the hill overlooking the village. But the symbol of Camastra is certainly the church of SS. Salvatore, built in the early years of the village's life, to which about forty houses are added.

Society

In past years, Camastra has experienced strong emigration, but its community is still alive and cohesive. The population of the village is slightly over 1900 inhabitants.

Economy

Agriculture is the main source of income for the Camastra area. The municipality is included in the production area of Pistacchio di Raffadali, DOP.

Infrastructure and Transportation

The municipality is crossed by the State Road 410 of Naro, which connects it with neighboring municipalities and the provincial capital.

Administration

The municipality of Camastra has a long history of administrations that have succeeded over the years. Currently, the mayor is Maria Stella Addamo.

Camastra is also part of agricultural region no. 2 - Interior Hills of Agrigento.
