Calvi Risorta

Welcome to Calvi Risorta: the Italian Municipality in the Province of Caserta

Hello everyone! Today we will talk about a beautiful Italian Municipality located in the province of Caserta in Campania: Calvi Risorta. This city has 5489 inhabitants and is famous for its archaeological site of Cales, an ancient Roman colony.

Physical geography

Calvi Risorta is located on the Casilina road, a few kilometers from Capua. The Municipality expanded to include the fractions of Petrulo and Visciano, and took on the name Calvi Risorta. The city is not a scattered municipality and is predominantly agricultural and industrial. The residential areas of Zuni (Calvi Risorta), Petrulo, and Visciano are located at the foothills of the westernmost slopes of the Trebulani Mountains. The Rio Lanzi originates on its territory.

Calvi Risorta: history, geography, and Europe's largest underground landfill.

Territory

In the right of the Volturno, a vast area called Agro caleno extends. The city is stretched along the road that runs on the edge between the plain and the relief of Monte Maggiore, which is also part of the Trebulani mountain chain. The territory represents one of the natural beauties of Calvi Risorta.

Europe's largest underground landfill

Unfortunately, the Municipality of Calvi Risorta has been the victim of a terrible illegal dumping of toxic waste. The Forestry Police discovered, in the area of the former Pozzi-Ginori factory, "Europe's largest underground landfill of toxic waste." Apparently, numerous Casalesi Clans would be involved in illegal dumping operations in the territory of Calvi Risorta on behalf of numerous companies in addition to Pozzi-Ginori.

History

The history of Calvi Risorta is ancient! It was one of the first cities of the Aurunci and Ausoni, then conquered by the Romans in 335 BC. The city returned to the fore in the 2nd century BC for its ceramics, now known under the name of vasi caleni. It was erected as a municipality, equipped with temples, an amphitheater, baths, and a theater, and in the 5th century, it was the foundation of the diocese of Teano-Calvi.

In 879, it was destroyed by the Saracens and was rebuilt with walls by the Lombard Atenolfo I, Gastaldo of Calvi and Count of Capua. It then became part of the Norman principality of Capua and in the 12th century was conquered by the Norman king Ruggero II. Thanks to its strategic position, it was equipped with a castle and was the seat of a customs office.

Conclusions

Calvi Risorta is a place rich in history and natural beauty. Unfortunately, as we have seen, it has been hit by an incredible problem of illegal dumping of toxic waste that is causing serious damage to public health. It is important to sensitize the population and the competent authorities so that adequate measures are adopted to solve this problem and ensure a better future for Calvi Risorta.
