Welcome to Calvenzano!

Hello everyone! Are you ready to discover the history of Calvenzano, a beautiful Italian town in the province of Bergamo? We are here to take you on a journey through the centuries and show you how the settlements of the Roman civilization had a great impact on the city.

History of Calvenzano

Before talking about the city, let's talk about its origin. The name "Calvenzano" derives from the gentilic name "Calventius", belonging to the "gens Calventia". The city has had a very interesting history, being subject to numerous dominations such as those of the Lombard and Visconti kingdoms.

As the centuries passed, the village had several clashes with the Milanese and Venetian authorities, becoming the protagonist of a long season of wars that affected the whole region up to the Risorgimento.

Later, when the lordship of the town passed to the Visconti family, Calvenzano experienced an important historical turning point. The Pope launched a crusade against them, and the area was occupied by the papal army. A few years later, the family, led by Azzone Visconti, regained control of the territories by defeating the papal army in a battle near Vaprio d'Adda.
