Caldonazzo

Welcome to Caldonazzo: An Immersion in Its Physical Geography

Caldonazzo is a small Italian municipality located just 20 km from the city of Trento and is characterized by its incredible natural beauty. Thanks to Lake Caldonazzo, one of the largest in the region, the territory has great importance from a naturalistic point of view, besides the fact that the Brenta River, which flows to the Adriatic Sea, originates from it.

The municipal territory is located at the beginning of the Val Sugana and is surrounded by hills and mountains, including the summit of Vigolana and the highlands of Folgaria, Lavarone, Luserna, and the Val d'Astico. The municipal territory also includes the hamlets of Brenta and Lochere, in addition to the location of Monte Rovere.

A Brief History of Caldonazzo

The history of Caldonazzo dates back to the Euganean and Illyrian era, when the area was mainly inhabited by shepherds. Over the centuries, the village has expanded, to become the municipality that we know today.

Caldonazzo is a village that has a lot to offer from a cultural point of view. In particular, the religious architecture of the village is very interesting to visit, such as the Church of San Sisto, known for its structure dating back to the first half of the 18th century. The Church of San Valentino is also a place of interest, dating back to the 12th century and built before 1259. The church has been restored several times over time, and is equipped with a small bell tower included in the tympanum.

Among the most important archaeological sites in the area is the fragment of a tombstone found in 1872 in the vineyard of Colle di Brenta, about 100 meters from the Church of San Valentino. This artifact can be dated between the 7th and 8th centuries A.D. and is currently preserved at the parish church of San Sisto in Caldonazzo.
