Civil and military architecture

Caldes also has several interesting attractions in terms of civil and military architecture. Castel Caldes, dating back to the XIII century, is an incredible place that also houses the Chapel of the Nativity of Mary with frescoes by Elia Naurizio made in 1629. The Rocca of Samoclevo, on the other hand, dates back to the XII century and was used as a military fortress.

The trenches of Bordiana-Bozzana are another important attraction, located in the mountains of Caldes which was used by the Austro-Hungarians as defense during World War I.

Population and language

From a demographic point of view, Caldes has seen growth in its population in recent years. The language spoken in the area is mainly Italian, but the Solandro dialect "Caudés" or "Cjaudés" is still spoken by some locals.

Geography

Caldes has undergone some changes in its territorial jurisdiction over the years: in 1928, the territories of the abolished municipalities of Bozzana, Cavizzana, Samoclevo and San Giacomo were aggregated, while in 1956 some territories were detached for the reconstitution of the municipality of Cavizzana.

Economy and craftsmanship

Caldes has a strong artisanal tradition in the field of woodworking aimed at the production of furniture and furnishings. This craftsmanship is still very widespread in the area and appreciated all over the world.

Administration and twinning

Caldes does not currently have an active twinning, but there have been several relationships with other Italian and European cities in the past.

Sports

In 1993, Caldes hosted the 1993 World Canoe/Kayak Downhill Championships at the "Contre" sports center, along the Noce stream. This sports center also hosted various editions of the Italian Canoe Downhill Championships, sprint and a Downhill Canoe World Cup event in 1998.

Conclusion
