Solanas

Solanas: a historic hamlet of Cabras

Hi everyone! Today I want to talk about Solanas, a hamlet in the municipality of Cabras, in the province of Oristano. Solanas is a medieval settlement that, like the nearby Cabras, belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and the curatoria of Campidano di Oristano.

History of Solanas

After the fall of the Giudicato of Arborea in 1410, Solanas came under the dominion of the Marchesato of Oristano, and subsequently in 1478, became part of the Kingdom of Aragon as a fiefdom. In 1767, during the Savoyard era, the village was incorporated into the Marchesato of Arcais, granted as a fiefdom by King Charles Emmanuel III to the Flores Nurra, which was then redeemed in 1839 with the abolition of the feudal system.

In 1928, the municipality of Solanas was merged with that of Cabras, but still retains its own traditions and identity to this day.

Solanas: history, monuments and traditions of a village in Cabras.

Monuments and places of interest

Solanas is a small village but has several beautiful monuments and places of interest to visit. The parish church of St. Peter the Apostle is a very suggestive medieval building and is also the patron saint of the village, celebrated on June 29. In front of this church, we can find ancient wash houses, used in the past when water was not yet available in homes. Moreover, along the road leading to Cabras, there are other ancient wash houses.

Economy of Solanas

The main economic activities in Solanas are related to agriculture and animal farming. In particular, this region is famous for the production of vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes, and pork and sheep meat.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if you are planning a vacation in Sardinia, do not forget to visit Solanas and discover all its historical, artistic, and natural treasures. This hamlet of Cabras will bring you moments of peace and tranquility immersed in nature, and will make you discover the traditions and culinary specialties of this magnificent region of Italy.
