San Vito Al Mantico

Welcome to San Vito al Mantico

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the village of San Vito al Mantico, the only village in the Bussolengo municipality in the province of Verona. We are only 3 kilometers away from the city of Verona and surrounded by beautiful nature.

Physical geography

San Vito al Mantico is located in the western part of the Verona province, in the high Veronese plain. We are surrounded by the morainic circles of Lake Garda and the first bends of the Adige river plain. The territory of our municipality is divided from the municipality of Pescantina by the Adige river. To the west, you can see the last morainic circles dating back to the Rissian glaciation. Our village is located 91 meters above sea level.

San Vito al Mantico: natural beauties and millenary history.

History

The history of San Vito al Mantico dates back to the Bronze Age, about 3500 years ago. Venetians, Rhaetians, Celts, and finally Romans succeeded here. In the 12th century, the rural lordship of Olderico seems to reign. In 1405, the entire municipality came under the dominion of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. In 1866, it was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy. In short, a rich and fascinating history that is reflected in our monuments and places of interest.

Monuments and places of interest

Church of Saints Vito, Modesto and Crescenzia

The Church of Saints Vito, Modesto and Crescenzia is a wonderful place that has maintained its medieval structure until the 18th century. Around the year 1769, a new, simple and spacious hall was built, devoid of particular works of art. The church contains inside it a fresco depicting the Madonna with Child and a Saint, probably Saint Vito. The fresco probably dates back to the end of the 14th century. On the outer wall, traces of other now deteriorated frescoes can be seen.

Church of San Giovanni Battista at Corno Basso

The Church of San Giovanni Battista at Corno Basso is another place of interest that I recommend visiting. It was built around 1734/1735 by the landowner Giovanni Battista Campetti. Becoming the property of the Diocese in 1936, it became the parish church of the nascent parish of Corno-San Vito in 1959. The church has a single rectangular hall, decorated according to late Baroque aesthetics.
