Buriasco

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Turin, a city that you surely know well. Turin is located in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone and Po rivers, in front of the opening of some Alpine valleys such as the Val di Susa, which connects it to nearby France through the Frejus tunnels.

History

Foundation and dominations

The history of Turin begins around the 3rd century BC when it was founded by the Taurini, then transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus with the name of Iulia Augusta Taurinorum in the 1st century BC. After the Ostrogoth domination, it became the capital of an important Duchy of Turin, and then passed, after becoming the capital of the Marca di Torino, under the lordship of the Casa Savoia in the 11th century. In 1563 it became the capital and from 1720 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia (1720-1861), a state that in the 19th century led to the "Risorgimento" and that made Turin the first Capital (city) of the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946) (from 1861 to 1865).
