Bultei

Bultei: A Journey Through Sardinian History

Bultei, or Urtei in its original language, is a town in the province of Sassari that boasts a millennia-old history dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Bultei's territory has a rich archaeological heritage, with numerous nuraghi and the Tomb of Giants Sas Presones spread throughout the area. There are also remains of ancient inhabited centers buried by history, where pestilence played a fundamental role.

History

The foundation of Bultei has been dated around 1000 CE, although there are no certain documents regarding this. In the field of Bultei, there was a village called Usolvìsi, which was destroyed in the early Middle Ages, but had significant religious value due to the existence of a Camaldolese convent. Over the centuries, the village belonged to the curatorship of Anela in the Judicate of Torres, and then, under the Judicate of Arborea, was incorporated into the County of Goceano.

In modern times, Bultei gave birth to Francesco Bande, one of the most important musicians in the history of Sardinian music. The coat of arms of the town represents a votive ship with a bronze deer protome from Nuragic times, found in Argiolas in the locality of Bonotta, and two sheep, symbolizing the sheep farming currently at the base of the town's economy.
