In the 12th century, Bulgarograsso was in the middle of the disputes between the municipalities of Como and Milan and, although it was part of the Contado del Seprio, it sided with the Lariani. Later, it became the property of the monks of the Acquafredda Abbey in Lenno and the Santa Maria grangia, a fortified warehouse that stored the crops and the tithes that belonged to the abbot of the monastery, was built. Over the centuries, Bulgarograsso has undergone many changes and has come under the dominion of the Visconti, the Sforza, and finally the Spaniards.
