Brusaporto

Welcome to Brusaporto!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Brusaporto, a municipality in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy, Italy, where around 5591 people live. The city is located on the hills of Val Cavallina and is about 11.5 kilometers east of Bergamo.

Origin of the name

This city has an interesting history, and one of the curiosities concerns the origin of its name. There is not much historical information about it, but a legend says that the name Brusaporto was born during the 13th century. At that time, the Rock of the village was the residence of a very wealthy lord who forced his subjects to work hard, without earning much. After suffering too much, the population rebelled against the tyranny of the lord and attacked the Rock. The lord was kidnapped and taken to the square, while the crowd cheered shouting ''brüsa porco'' which means ''burn the pig'' in Bergamo dialect. It is a legend that is still handed down today, but there is no evidence to support it.

Brusaporto: History, Activities, Gastronomy, and Natural Beauty!

History

Brusaporto has ancient origins that date back to prehistoric times, as shown by the human remains found in the hilly area of the city. There is no evidence of inhabited nuclei under the Roman Empire, but the Middle Ages were a very important period for the city. In 1331, Brusaporto was mentioned in the statutes of Bergamo and, later, in 1333, it was divided into two communities: ''Amberethe et Brusaporcho''. We do not know exactly where Amberethe was, but it seems to be traceable in the locality of Beder, between Brusaporto and Bagnatica, where there is a XII century monastery, now a private residence.

In the XIV century, Brusaporto was devastated by the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines: in 1380, the Ghibellines destroyed the castle located on the top of the hill, depriving the city of one of its largest defensive constructions. Later, the village was subject to the domination of the Republic of Venice, becoming part of the ''Quadra di Calcinate'' until the Napoleonic domination with the Cisalpine Republic arrived.

Activities

Today, Brusaporto is a very quiet city, but it offers many interesting activities for the population. There are numerous associations and sports clubs where citizens can participate and have fun. In particular, the village is very active in football, cycling, and basketball. Recently, a new very nice park has also been inaugurated, with play areas for children and a large green space to relax.

Food and drinks

Like every respectable Italian city, Brusaporto has its own cuisine. Bergamo's cuisine is very rich and includes numerous traditional dishes. One of the most famous dishes in Bergamo is certainly polenta taragna, a dish made with cornmeal and cheese. In Brusaporto, of course, you will find it in all the restaurants in the city! In addition, Brusaporto is famous for its numerous wineries and the production of red wine. The local wine is called Moscato di Scanzo and represents an excellent choice to accompany the typical dishes of the area.

Conclusions

We have come to the end of this short story about Brusaporto. I hope I have made you better acquainted with this small Italian city that has an ancient history and a great culinary tradition. If you happen to be in the area, I recommend stopping in Brusaporto: you will discover a village rich in activities and natural beauties!
