It was first mentioned in a document towards the end of the 10th century and its history was immediately tied to the Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone, which maintained its administration headquarters there until 1370. Later, the village changed several names until it arrived at the current "Aufhofen".

Origin of the name

The first name for which there is historical confirmation dates back to 985, and was "Vfhouun". Later the name changed several times until it arrived, in 1314, at the current "Aufhofen". The Italian name, instead, was created by Ettore Tolomei and adopted by the Italian government in the 1920s.
