Discovering Brignano-Frascata: an agricultural commune in southeast Piedmont

Are you ready for a journey of discovery to the small commune of Brignano-Frascata? Located in southeast Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria, this village of only 425 inhabitants stretches along a slightly hilly area about 4 km from the border with Lombardy. Its economy revolves almost exclusively around agriculture, with numerous fruit cultivations.

A bit of the city's history

The municipal territory of Brignano-Frascata has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, as evidenced by the findings in the locality of Serra del Monte. During the Middle Ages, it was under the jurisdiction of the Bishops of Tortona from 1157. Later, it became a fiefdom of the Duchy of Milan, which was then assigned to the Genoese Spinola family (1375). In 1478, Napoleon Spinola and Giovanni Antonio Spinola killed the brother Battista and his three male children in the castle of Brignano. One of the unmarried daughters died shortly thereafter from the wounds sustained. Following the confiscation of the assassins' assets, the fiefdom passed to Enrico Bigurra. From 1685 to about 1800, it belonged to the Ferrari di San Sebastiano. It became a municipality in 1928 following the merger of the municipalities of Brignano del Curone and Frascata. From that date until 1947, the municipality also included the territory of the municipality of Momperone.
