Bressanvido
Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the Municipality of Bressanvido, a small village in Veneto with an interesting history and many places of interest to visit.
Physical geography
Bressanvido is composed of two settlements: Bressanvido, the main town and Poianella, the fraction with a larger population. It is located on the alluvial plain formed by the debris of the Brenta River, with an altitude ranging from 47 to 100 meters above sea level. The area is very rich in water, with a network of aquifers just a few centimeters below the surface and numerous springs that feed a series of canals.
History
The name "Bressanvido" comes from the Latin "Preadium" or from the German "Breit," meaning a rural rustic bottom. The fraction of Poianella has a probable Slovenian origin, from the word "poljana" meaning "marshy meadow."
During the Middle Ages, Bressanvido was an important possession of the Benedictine monks, as evidenced by a document from 983. The parish of Bressanvido was also the seat of other chapels in the area. In the 14th century, the territory of Bressanvido was subjected to the civil Vicariate of Marostica and later to the Visconti and Venetian domination. During World War I, the area of Poianella hosted some sections of the army.
Symbols
The coat of arms of the Municipality of Bressanvido represents the history and economy of the village. The red cross on the left represents the Benedictine monks, while the castle indicates the presence of a local manor house. The right part of the coat of arms represents the economy of the village, with a spike of wheat, an ear of corn, and a golden ox on a meadow.
Monuments and places of interest
Bressanvido and Poianella have several churches, oratories, and historical villas that are worth visiting. The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bressanvido is particularly interesting, as well as the Mezzalira Villa, also known as the Viceroy's Villa, and the Girardi Villa, the seat of the Municipality.
