On January 31, 1813, Agostino Depretis, a politician and eight-time Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy between 1876 and 1887, was born in Bressana Bottarone.

The Municipality of Bressana Bottarone was formed in 1928 with the union of the suppressed municipalities of Bottarone and Bressana. Before 1946, the municipality was administered by a podestà, but later a mayor, a council and a board were created.

In the hamlet of Argine, there is the Castle of Argine, a medieval castle located on the outskirts of the town, not far from the course of the Coppa di Argine stream. The coat of arms and the banner of Bressana Bottarone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on July 29, 1993. The banner is a white flag.
