Bresimo

Welcome to Bresimo!

Friends, today I'll take you to the magical valley of Bresimo! This village of only 249 inhabitants encloses an ancient history dating back to the time of the Rhaetians and Romans. Come and discover this enchanted place, where history and nature merge in perfect harmony.

The history of Bresimo

The Bresimo valley was a well-known trade route between Trentino, Val Venosta and Switzerland since ancient times. The town was ruled by the Altaguardia family, an important family from what was known as the Da Livo lineage. The family founded the Church of the Assumption of Mary and renovated it in 1334, in Gothic style. The Lords of Altaguardia also ruled the Beliarde Castle, located in the upper part of the Fontana hamlet. After their family's extinction, power over the Bresimo valley passed to the Thun counts, who enlarged the castle and the Church of Baselga. In the eighteenth century, the castle was abandoned, but has recently been restored and returned to the community.

Bresimo: history, nature and culture in an enchanting valley!

The symbols of Bresimo

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Bresimo is based on the coat of arms of the ancient Lords of Altaguardia Castle, which represents a variation of the Da Livo/Zoccolo coat of arms, meaning "interlaced in a chevron formation, one in red, two in gold, and three in black. Crest: two semi-winged upwards, interlaced in chevron, as in the shield". To this Altaguardia coat of arms, the municipal one adds the figure of a crenellated silver wall, symbolizing the presence of the ancient castle and the historical antiquity of the entire valley.
