Bolzano Train Station: A Brief Overview
Bolzano Train Station is the main railway station in the city and in the whole Trentino-Alto Adige region. Bolzano Train Station was inaugurated in 1859 as a temporary terminal for the Brenner Railway. In 1898, Eisenbahn Tirols inaugurated the Bolzano-Caldaro Railway.
With the transfer of Bolzano Autonomous Province from Austria to Italy, the operation of the lines and the station passed to Ferrovie dello Stato. Under the auspices of the fascist administration, the station building underwent a major renovation and was redesigned by the architect Angiolo Mazzoni. In 1935, Ferrovie dello Stato proceeded to electrify the line to Merano with a 3600 volt three-phase system.
