Brendola

Welcome back to Brendola: an island of nature at the foot of the Berici hills

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Brendola, a Veneto municipality located in the province of Vicenza, populated by 6,551 inhabitants. The city boasts a varied geography ranging from a lowest point of 39 meters to a highest point on Monte Comunale of 375 meters.

Territory and landscape

Brendola is one of the cities that welcome the Berici Hills and is also included in the Berica Area. For this reason, the territory is located on the western edge of the Berici hills facing the Lessini mountains and is divided into two geographical areas, the hilly and the flat areas.

The hilly area, of volcanic origin, hosts woods, meadows, and mainly vineyards. In fact, Brendola is famous for its wine production and cultivates the Garganega vine that gives life to the famous Soave DOC.

The flat area is located in the central-western sector of the municipality and penetrates into the hills. In the past, before the 20th century, the area was characterized by numerous floods due to the abundance of water in the area.

The main river that crosses Brendola is the Brendola, which is formed by the confluence of many streams, the largest of which is the Rio Scarantello. The subsoil, especially in the area of Rondole, welcomes many aquifers and springs.

Climate

The climatic conditions in Brendola are typical of the Venetian-Friulian plain areas at the foot of the hills. Here, precipitation is medium to high, and the annual temperature range is wide. In winter, the temperature can drop below -10°C, while in summer, it rarely exceeds 35°C.

Origin of the name

The name Brendola already existed since the Middle Ages, and it seems to be connected to the presence of numerous water springs or basins, also called "brendole." The name derives from the Latin verb "redeo," which means "to rise," becoming "rendula" and then "brendula." Alternatively, it may derive from the northern word "brenta," which means "basin" in a geomorphic sense.

Discovering the city

Brendola is a city that boasts a vast green area, ideal for walks, trekking, and mountain biking. In the historic center, you can admire the Church of San Michele, built in the 14th century. You can then visit the Chapel of Sant'Antonio Abate, known for a depiction of Saint Christopher.

Moreover, visiting the Rondole area is a charming experience. Here, you can find the sources of the Rio Scarantello and some typical local stone houses.

Conclusions

Ultimately, Brendola represents an ideal destination for nature lovers and breathtaking landscapes. From the vine-covered hills to the natural paths of the flat area, Brendola offers something for all tastes. Come and discover this fascinating town and let yourself be conquered by its beauty.
