Brembate

Welcome to Brembate di Sopra!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about a beautiful Italian commune located in Lombardy, in the province of Bergamo: Brembate di Sopra. With its 7,905 inhabitants, Brembate di Sopra is a place where history and nature come together, creating a unique atmosphere.

A bit of history

The history of Brembate di Sopra dates back to the Roman era when the area became an important military and commercial crossroads towards Europe. In fact, the city was located near a military road that connected Bergamo to Como and represented the end point of the road that connected Friuli to the Rhaetian regions. The presence of Roman military led to the aggregation of indigenous and foreign communities.

Subsequently, the territory was subject to the domination of the Lombards, who placed the area in the Duchy of Bergamo. Later, the village passed to local aristocrats and was involved in numerous disputes between Guelfs and Ghibellines.

The annexation of the territory to the Republic of Venice in 1427 put an end to hostilities. During this period, the municipal territory also included Arzenate (now in the municipality of Barzana), while Tresolzio was administratively autonomous. With the arrival of the Austrians, who placed the area in the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom, the municipalities regained their autonomy and maintained it until 1927 when Brembate di Sopra was again merged with Ponte San Pietro. However, this union lasted until the immediate post-war period when the village definitively regained its administrative autonomy.
