Mellana

Mellana, the charming Piemontese hamlet

Hello everyone! Today I would like to talk to you about Mellana, a small municipal hamlet of about 250 inhabitants located in the province of Cuneo, on the right bank of the Gesso stream. The name Mellana derives from a noble family, the Melano, who in the past owned a large part of the area's land. But Mellana is much more than just a simple hamlet!

Economy: agriculture and tourism

The economy of Mellana is mainly agricultural, with a strong presence of small fruit crops. But Mellana is also known for its religious tourism, thanks to the Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of the Rays-The Miraculous Medal. Here every year the parish festival takes place in the last days of July, with gastronomic evenings and many other activities. But the hamlet is also a paradise for golf lovers, thanks to the golf course present in the area.

Mellana: Piedmontese history, tourism, and traditions.

Monuments and history

The Sanctuary of Mellana was first built thanks to the Melano family's will, but the current building was erected by the work of Don Giuseppe Garavagno, who began the works in 1902. During World War II, the Mellana area was a theater of the partisan uprising, with local youths joining the partisan bands to fight against the Nazis and fascists. Some of the partisan actions were also favored by the presence of weapons taken from the nearby GAF barracks.

Events and traditions

The parish festival of Mellana is the most important event of the year, with gastronomic evenings offering the best dishes of Piedmontese cuisine and many activities for adults and children. Among the most important events is also the "Words and Images Competition", dedicated to graphic works, photographs, poetry and prose. In short, Mellana offers fun and tradition all year round!

And with this final paragraph, I bid you farewell, dear readers. If you are in Piedmont, you cannot miss the opportunity to visit Mellana and discover all the beauties of this small hamlet in the province of Cuneo. We are waiting for you!
