Origins of the name Botticino

The name Botticino derives from the Brescia dialect ''Butisì''. The exact reason for choosing this name is still unclear, but there are some theories about it.

The history of Botticino

Botticino Mattina, one of the municipalities' fractions, has been famous for its precious marble stones since the 17th century. During the period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Botticino was active in the irredentist movement and was repressed by the Austrian police after the Ten Days of Brescia in 1849.

In the 20th century, Botticino was a protagonist in the commercialization of marble, thanks to the work of Giuseppe Zanardelli who commissioned marble exclusively from Botticino for the construction of Vittoriale degli Italiani. Today, Botticino focuses on preserving artistic and cultural heritage through its important Italian restoration university.
