Welcome to Botricello! Located in the Gulf of Squillace in Calabria, we are in a city that has a population of about 5,200. Despite its short history, Botricello has become an important tourist center thanks to its beautiful beaches and mild climate. Physical geography

Botricello is divided into two parts: Botricello superiore (or Soprano) and Botricello nuova. Botricello superiore is located inland on the hills, while Botricello nuova develops near the coast. The city is located on the Strada statale 106 Jonica.

Origins of the name

The name Botricello is believed to derive from the Greek word "bothros" (ditch) with the addition of the suffix -icellu. The city would have taken its name from the place where the ditch was excavated.

History

Botricello obtained autonomy in 1957 after having been part of the nearby Andali for many years. The Municipality of Botricello has a coat of arms granted by decree of the President of the Republic on January 9, 2006. The banner, instead, is a white flag with a red border.

One of the places of interest is the necropolis near the sea, dating back to the late ancient age, which was excavated between 1967 and 1968. In addition, a small basilica was discovered next to the necropolis.
