History of Bosaro

Bosaro has a very interesting history. Already in the fifteenth century, the Turolla family built their own dwelling in this village, completely transforming it. Later, the municipality underwent the historical events of nearby Polesella, territory of the Duchy of Ferrara until 1484. After the conclusion of the War of Ferrara, Bosaro was annexed to the Republic of Venice.

In the following years, the Turolla family dedicated themselves to the construction of a new church, which was erected as a parish in 1497. At that time, Bosaro separated from the parish of Arquà Polesine, and the census carried out by the ecclesiastical authority declared around 400 faithful.

With the fall of the Republic of Venice in 1797, Bosaro passed under the dominion of the Austrian Empire. In 1805, Austria ceded the Austrian Venetian Province to France, and Bosaro came under Napoleonic control, in the Kingdom of Italy.

The second French domination lasted until the fall of Napoleon. In 1814, Veneto passed to the Habsburgs, and with the fall of the Kingdom, Bosaro returned to the Austrian Empire. Later, the municipality followed the historical-political events related to the Polesine, and its capital Rovigo, with the annexation of Veneto to the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, at the end of the Third Italian War of Independence.
