Bosa
Introduction
Bosa is a municipality in the province of Oristano located on the west coast of Sardinia. The city has a population of about 7,490 inhabitants and is part of the Union of Municipalities of Planargia. Bosa is the main inhabited center of the geographical region of Planargia and historically falls within the wider territory of Logudoro.
Physical geography
Territory
The territory of Bosa covers an area of approximately 380 km² and is located in the valley of the Temo River, south of Planargia, east of Marghine and Campeda, west of the Sardinia Sea and north of the ridge of Sa Pittada and Monte Mannu.
Hydrology
Bosa is crossed by the course of the Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, about 66 km long. The Temo alluvial plain occupies the inhabited center of the city. In the past, numerous and intense rains caused flooding of the city and the surrounding countryside, also due to the difficulty of discharging the river into the sea.
Geology and morphology
The territory of Bosa is characterized by a great geological variety, with the presence of magmatic rocks dating back to the Miocene period. Among the main ones are rhyolite, rhyodacite and dacite. The Temo, upstream of the town, separates the wide lower trachytes of Monte Navrino from the upper andesites of Monte Pedru and Monte Rughe. On the coast, very jagged and 45 km long, trachytes south of the Punta Argentina promontory can be distinguished.
Seismology
The municipality of Bosa has been classified as "zone 4" by the Department of Civil Protection, with a minimal seismic risk. However, slight or moderate earthquakes have been recorded infrequently. The last significant shock, of magnitude 3.8, occurred on April 26, 2000.

The climate of Bosa is Mediterranean, with mild and humid winters and hot and dry summers.

During the Aragonese period, Bosa obtained the rank of Royal City of Sardinia, of which only the honorary title of City of Italy remains today. In addition, together with Alghero, it is the Diocese of the diocese of Alghero-Bosa.
