Physical Geography
The territory of Borriana is mainly composed of the plain to the left of the Elvo river, where some hamlets are also located. To the right of the river, the town has a small part of the Bessa plateau. In addition, the territory is also affected by the Oremo and Viona rivers.
Origin of the name
The name Borriana could derive from "botrio", a term that indicates a place rich in swamps and stagnant water.
History
Borriana has a very ancient history; in fact, a Roman necropolis has been discovered near the Oremo river, in the locality of Chiesa Vecchia. The town's coat of arms was granted in 1973.

Borriana has a stable demographic evolution, although the population has slightly decreased over the years.

From 1926 to 1951, Borriana was the southwestern terminus of the Biella-Borriana tramway. Today, the town is well-connected by public transport to neighboring cities.
