Boroneddu

Boroneddu: discovering the municipality

Boroneddu is a small municipality in the province of Oristano, located in the historical region of Guilcer in Sardinia. With its 155 inhabitants, although tiny, this locality can boast a thousand-year-old history, thanks to the presence of numerous Nuraghe already during the Nuragic civilization.

Thousand-year-old history

In the past, Boroneddu belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and was part of the curatoria of Gilciber, later called Ozier Real, with its capital first in Abbasanta and then in Sedilo. Subsequently, after the fall of the giudicato (1420), the locality passed under Aragonese rule, which granted it in feudal tenure to Galcerando de Requenses in 1435. However, before this date (1416), the Arborense Valore de Ligia had already obtained this territory, along with Gilciber and the Parte Barigadu area. De Ligia was a traitor to the judge of Arborea Ugone III of Arborea, which is why he was killed along with his son Bernardo and their escort when they attempted to take possession of the area.

After numerous vicissitudes, in 1537 Boroneddu, together with the towns of Tadasuni, Sedilo, and Zuri, was sold to a nephew of Galcerando de Requenses, who in turn formed a county in 1566, confirmed as a fief to the Torresani. But, at the end of the Torresani family, in 1725 the municipality passed to the royal treasury. In 1737 the county was elevated to a marquisate, granted to Canon Francesco Solinas and later to the Delitala, from whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the abolition of the feudal system.

Since 1927, Boroneddu was annexed to Ghilarza until 1988, when it regained its independence.
