Borno: history, nature and mountains in Valcamonica.

Origin of the name

The name of the Municipality of Borno could derive from the Celtic root "Bor", which means "source". It is not surprising that the name has something to do with water, given that the area is characterized by a great variety of watercourses.

History

The history of Borno is interesting and full of events. During excavation works in 1958, an incineration tomb dating back to the 1st century BC was discovered, probably a funerary complex. In the 7th century, the dispute over Mount Negrino with the Scalve Valley began and in 1018 the first Vicinia were appointed in Borno.

In 1186, the men of Borno and the archpriest of Cividate Camuno discussed in Verona in front of the cardinals Adelardo and Pietro the possibility of having a baptismal font. In 1234, the Municipality of Borno was obliged to provide an architrave for the construction of a bridge over the Oglio river.

On August 14, 1423, the bishop of Brescia Francesco Marerio invested the feudal rights of tithing in the territories of Breno and Andriolo Ronchi di Breno. In 1394, during the dispute with the Scalvini for Mount Negrino, a gang from the Scalve Valley massacred all the malgari of Borno, gouging out their tongue, eyes, teeth, and "coradèle".

Conclusions

Borno is a Municipality rich in history and culture, which has a particular geographical position. The nature and mountains that surround it make this place an oasis of peace and tranquility. If you like mountain hiking and walks in nature, Borno is the right place for you. Come and visit it!
