Borgomasino

Hi everyone, today I want to talk to you about one of the most interesting and dynamic cities in Italy: Turin. With its 842,472 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2022), it is the fourth most populous municipality in our country and the capital of the Piedmont region and the Metropolitan City of Turin.

History

But Turin is not just a modern and lively city, it also has a two-thousand-year history. Founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini, it was transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus in the 1st century BC. After the Ostrogothic domination, it became the capital of an important Duchy of Turin and then came under the nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563 it became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy and, in 1720, the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia (1720-1861), becoming the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865.

Culture and economy

Turin is a city with a thousand facets: the heart of a metropolitan area of about 1.7 million inhabitants, it is also one of the major university, artistic, cultural and tourist hubs in Italy. In its territory there are also many areas and buildings included in two UNESCO protected properties: some palaces and areas belonging to the circuit of Savoy residences in Piedmont (world heritage) and the area of the hills of the Po (biosphere reserve).

Turin is also the third complex economic-industrial production in the country (together with Milan and Genoa it formed the industrial triangle in the years of the Italian economic miracle) and is the hub of the Italian automotive industry, as well as an important center for publishing, banking and insurance, information technology, cinema, food and wine, the space sector (astronomy), industrial design, sport, fashion and artificial intelligence.

Turin: history, culture, and economy in a dynamic city.

Territory

Turin is located in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone and Po rivers (the latter crosses the city from south to north). Facing the mouth of some alpine valleys, it offers a breathtaking view of the Susa Valley, which connects the city with neighboring France through the Frejus tunnels, the Lanzo valleys and the Sangone Valley.

Important events

Over the years, Turin has hosted numerous events of international relevance, such as the International Exhibition of 1911, the XX Winter Olympic Games in 2006, the ATP Finals from 2021 (until at least 2025) and the recent Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

Conclusions

In short, Turin is a city that has a lot to offer: from its millenary history to its cultural and economic vitality, there is no shortage of choice. If you have never visited it, I recommend you do it as soon as possible!
