The Campanian town of Bonea: history and natural beauty.

History

Bonea became a municipality at the end of the 19th century, having previously been a fraction of Montesarchio. The name of the town may derive from the goddess Bona Dea or from the Duke of Naples, Buono, who destroyed the town in 833. However, the etymology of the name is not entirely clear and some theories suggest that Bonea was the site of the ancient Caudio or a center of the same era, the first capital of the Caudini on the ancient Appian Way that passed through and proceeded towards Benevento.

The history of the municipality is linked to the Perone Pacifico baron's family.

Monuments and places of interest

Bonea boasts many tufaceous sepulchers from ancient Sannio, cuneiform and brick factories attributed to the ancient city of Caudio. There are also several interesting churches to visit, such as the 16th century church of San Sebastiano, the 17th century church of San Pietro, the church of San Nicola, and the church of San Biagio.
