Bollate

Hello friends, today I'm going to tell you about the wonderful city of Bollate, located about 11 kilometers northwest of Milan. With a population of 36,232 inhabitants, Bollate is one of the 11 municipalities in the Groane Park area and is part of the Milanese hinterland.

Physical geography

Bollate, at an average of 150 meters above sea level, is surrounded by a unique natural beauty. Its hamlets are Cascina del Sole, Cassina Nuova, Castellazzo and Ospiate. The territory has a muddy part with the presence of rocky debris, sand and gravel, and a part composed mainly of iron-rich clay. There are still active sand quarries here, while the clay quarries for brick production, located in Castellazzo, are no longer in use. The subsoil is composed of three main lithozones represented by gravel and sand, sand and clay, and quaternary marine sediments. The Garbogera, Pudiga, Nirone and Guisa streams flow through the municipal territory, increasing the beauty of nature in this place.

Origins of the name

This city's name has two probable origins. The first derives it from the Celtic "beola," which means birch and refers to the trees of this species present in the area of Castellazzo in particular and in other parts of the territory. The second origin of the name Bollate comes from the Latin term "bula," which means water puddle, with reference to the many springs present in the area.
