Boissano: nature, history and symbols of a Ligurian municipality.

History

The history of Boissano dates back to the Middle Ages. During this period, the town was under the control of the Bishop of Albenga and the fiefdom of Toirano. Over the centuries, the city has had a series of rulers and local representatives. In the eighteenth century, the Republic of Genoa took control of the territory, but granted Boissano and Toirano the opportunity to govern autonomously.

With the French invasion, Boissano became part of the Maremola Department and then inserted into the Montenotte Department. In 1815, the municipality was incorporated into the province of Albenga in the Kingdom of Sardinia and from 1861 to the Kingdom of Italy. In 1929, Boissano was suppressed and merged into the municipality of Toirano, but regained its municipal autonomy in 1946.

Symbols

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Boissano depicts an olive tree collared by a vine with silver fruits; in one corner of the field, a blue cornucopia brimming with fruits stands out. These symbols represent the importance of agriculture and nature for the city throughout its history. The municipal coat of arms was granted in 1977.

In conclusion, Boissano is an extraordinary place where nature blends with the history and culture of Liguria.
