Boffalora d'Adda is a small municipality in the province of Lodi, located in the Lombardy region. With its 1722 inhabitants, Boffalora d'Adda boasts a long and interesting history that makes it a perfect place for a cultural visit.
History of Boffalora d'Adda
Boffalora d'Adda has a very ancient history. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the possessions of the Bishop of Lodi and in the 1600s, it was a fiefdom of the Destrieri family. In 1632, the fiefdom passed to the Marquess Lancellotto Corrado di Lodi and in 1662 it became a county in favor of Alfonso Corrado. Finally, in 1762, the county was conferred to the Barattieri. In the Napoleonic era, Boffalora was part of the city of Lodi and regained its autonomy in 1816. In 1863, Boffalora d'Adda assumed the official name of "Boffalora d'Adda" to distinguish it from other places with the same name.
The village has an important military history due to its strategic position, and the traces of the ancient castle are still visible in the courtyard of a farmhouse.

Symbols of Boffalora d'Adda
Boffalora d'Adda has two symbols: the coat of arms and the gonfalon. The coat of arms represents three green mountains on a sky-blue background, which represent the three fractions that make up the village. At the top of the mountains is a radiant sun that represents the beautiful sunny days that the village has. The gonfalon, instead, represents the coat of arms of the village with the writing "Comune di Boffalora d'Adda".

Municipal Palace
The Municipal Palace was built in 1933 at the initiative of the then mayor, Dr. Maggi, a well-deserved doctor in Lodi, very active in the field of welfare work. The river colony, built in 1941, was gradually eliminated by the Adda river itself, due to changes in the course of the river.
Parish Church
The Parish Church of Boffalora d'Adda was completely rebuilt in 1590, about 80 years after the original construction of 1513 under the pontificate of Leo X and the episcopate of Ottaviano Maria Sforza. The parish is dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin and includes the entire municipal territory, with the exception of the Bell'Italia farmhouse, which belongs instead to the parish of Montanaso Lombardo. The Church was restored in 1954 by the then archpriest Don Luigi Bravi and has recently been redecorated and enriched by a valuable altar at the initiative of archpriest Don Paolo Gatti. In the church, there is a valuable oil painting by Scipione Piazza, representing the Madonna on a high throne, with Saint Helena and Saint Monica on the sides and Saint Macarius and Saint Cristinziano lower down. The main marble altar, instead, comes from the ancient church of San Michele in Lodi, dating back to the 13th century.
