Hello friends, today I will talk to you about Santa Filomena, a small inhabited locality of Bivona, in the free municipal consortium of Agrigento in Sicily. Only 178 inhabitants live here, but despite its small size, this area has some municipal services, such as a sports field and schools.

Santa Filomena is located at an altitude of about 449 meters above sea level. This locality is located at the southwestern entrance of Bivona, along the SS118 Corleonese Agrigentina road towards Alessandria della Rocca. It is also recently expanding, thanks to the construction of some public housing.
History
Contemporary Age
Santa Filomena developed as a residential area in the 20th century, constituting a suburb of Bivona to the west of the center. The name of the district from which the locality takes its name, Santa Filomena, was first mentioned in a document in June 1871. This name derives from the name of the chapel of Filomena of Rome that existed in this area.

Religious architecture
The church of Santa Filomena stood in the rural chapel of the homonymous district, located on the right of the current SS118 Corleonese Agrigentina national road. The religious building was just a few meters before the area where public housing was built in the 1950s.

Railways
In the locality of Santa Filomena is the Bivona station, located on the Lercara-Filaga-Magazzolo railway. Currently, the railway station building is being restored.

The inhabitants of Santa Filomena can enjoy a sports field and a municipal swimming pool. Additionally, they can take advantage of the sports facilities present in Bivona, such as the municipal stadium.
