Welcome to the Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto

Hello friends! Today I’ll be telling you about the Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto, a territory rich in history and faith. This archdiocese is part of the Ecclesiastical region of Apulia and, in 2020, counted 748,503 baptized persons out of 757,103 inhabitants under the guidance of Archbishop Giuseppe Satriano.

The territory

The archdiocese extends over 21 municipalities in the metropolitan city of Bari, including Adelfia, Bari, Bitonto, Casamassima, Gioia del Colle, Noicattaro, Triggiano, and Valenzano. It borders other dioceses such as Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi, Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva, and Castellaneta.

The parishes

The territory is divided into 13 vicariates and 126 parishes. The Episcopal territorial vicariate of Bitonto includes 18 parishes, while the zone vicariate of Bari has 11, divided into the neighborhoods of San Nicola, Libertà and Marconi - San Girolamo - Fesca.

The shrines and basilicas

In the archdiocese, there are several important shrines and basilicas: the Basilica of Saint Nicholas and the Pontifical Basilica and Shrine of Saint Fara, both located in Bari, the Sanctuary of Saint Anthony of Padua in Bari, the Pontifical Basilica of the Holy Doctors in Bitonto, and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pozzo in Capurso.

The ecclesiastical province

Finally, I would like to underscore that the Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto is part of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bari-Bitonto together with the diocese of Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva, the diocese of Andria, the diocese of Conversano-Monopoli, the diocese of Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi, and the diocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie.
