The history of Bertiolo
Bertiolo has an interesting history dating back to the time of Gaius Julius Caesar. There were stable camps of Roman legions in this area, as evidenced by the various signs of Roman influences found during excavations. The town is closely linked to its proximity to the Roman Via Postumia, which during Magyar invasions was also called "strata hungarorum". During this period, due to devastation, defensive systems such as the curtains were developed. Two were built in Bertiolo: one surrounding the church and cemetery with a wall, and another consisting of a moat that surrounded the village.

The silver and black colors on the Bertiolo emblem refer to the coat of arms of the Savorgnan family, the holder of the county and the castle of Belgrado, of which the town was a part. The Church of San Martino Vescovo (Bertiolo) is located along the road leading to the main square of the town. It dates back to the 17th century and has a single nave construction. The main façade faces north, with the bell tower leaning on the southwest corner. It was built on the ruins of a previous sacred building, of which the small apse still remains. The baroque marble altar from Venice is noteworthy, accompanied by statues of St. Peter and St. Paul. Other points of interest include an Francois Politi fresco that depicts the patron saint of the town giving part of his cloak to a poor person, as well as a Rosary altarpiece by the famous artist Francesco Pavona. However, the most famous artwork that reminds us of the Church of San Martino Vescovo is contemporary: the stained glass windows by Arrigo Poz, inaugurated on 11 November 1990, on the occasion of the feast of the patron saint, after five years of work.
