Hello everyone! Today, I will talk about Nevegàl Alp, a beautiful plateau located near Belluno, in the heart of the Belluno Prealps. The Alp is known as a renowned tourist resort for its breathtaking landscapes that embrace Valbelluna and the Dolomites, as well as for the presence of numerous places of interest such as the Lourdes Sanctuary and the botanical garden, and for sports activities suitable for all seasons.

The beauty of nature

Nevegàl Alp extends over an area of about 1500 hectares and boasts a strategic geographical position, overlooking to the north the most beautiful peaks of the Dolomites, from Marmolada to Pale di San Martino, and to the south the Venetian plain. The panorama is able to take the breath away from every visitor: from Valbelluna to the first Dolomite peaks such as Vette Feltrine and Schiara. Moreover, looking towards the east, you can admire the pre-alpine area of Alpago and Cansiglio.

Monuments and places of interest

A Sanctuary

The Lourdes Sanctuary represents one of the most visited places of Nevegàl Alp thanks to its architectural features and history. The Sanctuary was inaugurated in 1994 and was built by bishop Maffeo Giovanni Ducoli. Inside the Sanctuary, you can admire a historic organ built in 1764 and donated by Don Osvaldo Bortolot. The statue of Madonna di Lourdes, in Carrara marble, was blessed by Pope John Paul II. The Sanctuary was also visited by Pope Benedict XVI when he was still a cardinal.

Botanical Garden

The Nevegàl Botanical Garden is an unmissable attraction for all nature and botanical enthusiasts. Inside the garden, you can admire magnificent and rare varieties of alpine plants, such as gentian, rhododendron, wild orchids, and many other species. Furthermore, the garden also hosts numerous hiking trails, where you can admire ancient trees and stunning views of the valley.

Winter tourism

Nevegàl Alp is an ideal destination for all winter sports enthusiasts. Since the late '50s, it has started its skiing activity, thanks to the opening of some lifts on the slopes of the area. In the '70s, Nevegàl could boast of 20 downhill runs and 15 ski lifts. Over time, many of these lifts have been decommissioned or replaced. Among the most famous runs are Faverghera, still used for alpine skiing, Coca, still divided into Coca Alta and Coca Bassa, and Col dei Pez. Today, Nevegàl Alp presents itself with 15 km of downhill ski runs suitable for all levels of difficulty, served by 5 ski lifts. Furthermore, the presence of the ski school allows beginners to easily learn this winter sport.

In conclusion, this brief tour of Nevegàl Alp allows us to affirm that this splendid plateau represents a must-visit for anyone who decides to visit Valbelluna and the Belluno Prealps.
