The history of Bellizzi
The toponym Bellizzi first appeared in 1827 in the provisional census of Montecorvino Rovella, where four parcels of land called Bellizze were owned by Baron Gaetano Bellelli. It is believed that the name was adopted during the reign of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon (1759-1806) and the oldest testimony is a decree from the Murat period authorizing the construction of the Bellizzi-Montecorvino road. In the early nineteenth century, the plain of Montecorvino Rovella was rich in potential but sparsely populated due to the presence of buffalo herds and feudal oppression. With the birth of the first nuclei of employed bourgeoisie and the evolution of the road network, Bellizzi became a railway hub and the twelfth fraction of Montecorvino Rovella. The town grew during the twentieth century, becoming a reference point for the life of citizens.
The growth of the town
Until 1929, Bellizzi consisted of only three houses located at the crossroads of the four main roads leading to Calabria, Salerno, Montecorvino Rovella, and the railway station. However, in the following years, the population grew, the crossroads became an increasingly important center, and houses mushroomed throughout the area. This was also favored by the development of agricultural commuting from hilly areas of other fractions of the municipality, such as Montecorvino Pugliano and Giffoni Valle Piana.
Conclusions
Bellizzi is a constantly growing municipality, an ideal destination for anyone looking for a peaceful place to live without too much excitement but with the right amount of services. Its geographical location and moderate climate also make it a perfect holiday destination, where you can enjoy the beauties of Italy while breathing fresh country air.
