Carniglia: A Geographical Fraction of Bedonia
Carniglia is a beautiful geographical fraction of Bedonia, in the province of Parma. This location is only 3.01 km away from the town center and is a small village characterized by a suggestive and hilly mountain landscape, situated at an altitude of 720 m.s.l.m.
To better understand the history of Carniglia, we need to go back to 1045, when this location appears in a notarial act that is part of the possessions of the church of Bobbio. The name Carniglia, in the past was written as "Carnea" or "Carnena", and referred to a high place, located on a ridge and heavily frequented.
The Church of Cipriano and Giustina
The church of Carniglia is dedicated to Cipriano and Giustina, as well as the cathedral of Piacenza. The cult of these saints has been present in this area since ancient times. The church of Carniglia is an ancient Latin cross building that has been expanded and modified over the centuries.
The central nave of the church is decorated in Baroque style and contains a beautiful carved wooden statue, depicting the patron saint Giustina, of recent workmanship.
Other Sacred Buildings and Traditional Festivals
In the fraction of Carniglia, but also in other nearby areas, there are many other sacred buildings, such as the chapel dedicated to the Madonna di Caravaggio, located near the path that leads to the famous "Bore Lake," near the Taro River.
Furthermore, here are some fractions such as Casale Val Taro, Strepeto, Setterone, and Alpe, which in the 1500s had the establishment of the parish. Each area has its own church dedicated to the patron saints and every year their respective traditional festivals are celebrated.
For example, in Piane, a nearby location, there is a small church erected in 1959 dedicated to Santa Lucia, patron saint of sandstone quarrymen, highly renowned in the area. Every year on December 13, this saint is celebrated with a very heartfelt ceremony.
On the other hand, the Madonna di Caravaggio is celebrated every year in the last week of May. This festival attracts a lot of people to the area, who participate in processions and religious celebrations.
Conclusions
Carniglia is a real gem of the province of Parma, a historical and religious place of great charm. The church of Cipriano and Giustina, testimony of the presence of the patron saints, is an ancient and enchanting building that represents one of the reference points of the entire area.
But the beauty and spirituality of Carniglia do not end here, but extend to other locations and traditional festivals that animate the nearby fractions. In this place, it is possible to find the peace and serenity we were looking for, immersed in an enchanting landscape and close to the religious and cultural tradition of the area.
