Welcome to Baselga di Piné!

Hello to all our readers, today I will talk to you about Baselga di Piné, a municipality of 5114 inhabitants in the autonomous province of Trento, in the heart of Alto Adige. Like many other cities in northern Italy, our small mountain village is full of history and interesting places to discover.

History

The first traces of settlements in the area date back to 1160, when the Pinetana territory was owned by the canons of the Cathedral of San Vigilio. However, it was only in 1253 that the Magnificent Pinetana Community was established, which included the territory of Fornace, Lona-Lases, and Albiano. This community was created to defend the freedom of the area from feudal institutions and its independence lasted until 1875 when the municipalities of Baselga, Bedollo, and Miola were created.

During the Middle Ages, the presence of the Belvedere Castle, guarded by the lords of Belvedere, gave great importance to the Pinetana area. But after a rebellion of the Pinetani, the castle was completely destroyed, and its lords were ousted from power.

To confirm the independent spirit of the Pinetani, they participated in the German Peasants' War in 1525. In 1796, the valley was the scene of one of the historical events that are still remembered today during an entertainment show with traditional costumes in the summer. In 1866, the Invasions of Trentino reached Baselga, bringing a radical economic increase and improving the residents' quality of life, making the plateau one of the main regional tourist destinations.
