Bauladu: history, monuments and beauties of Sardinia.

History

Bauladu has a long history, inhabited since the Nuragic Civilization and during Roman Sardinia. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to the Judicate of Arborea and was part of the Campidano di Milis curacy. In the 12th century, the Arborean judges donated the villa to the Camaldolese community of Bonarcado. At the fall of the Judicate in 1410, it was included in the Marchesato di Oristano and from 1420 it passed under the Aragonese rule. In 1767, it was incorporated in the Marquisate of Arcais, a fiefdom of the Flores Nurra, which was redeemed in 1839 with the abolition of the feudal system, to become an autonomous municipality governed by a mayor and a city council.

In 1927, the town lost its autonomy and was annexed as a hamlet to Milis; it regained its autonomy in 1946.
