Bassano Bresciano

Welcome to Bassano Bresciano!

Hello everyone! Today we are talking about Bassano Bresciano, a welcoming Italian commune located in Lombardy, with a population of about 2300 inhabitants. The territory is characterized by the countryside and typical farms of the Po Valley, but there are also several industries developed over the years around the area.

Physical geography

The commune extends over a flat territory and the agricultural market represents the main source of wealth. The area is surrounded by magnificent hills, perfect for pleasant walking or cycling trips.

Bassano Bresciano: a municipality between hills and countryside.

History

Bassano Bresciano has Roman origins and was crossed by the Brixiana road, used for communication between the river port of Cremona and Brescia. The presence of the Lombards is attested by the parish of San Michele Arcangelo, probably built inside a castle in 400 AD.

In 1427 the dispute between Venetians and Milanese for the possession of the commune began, but the latter were expelled by the Venetians in September 1483. In the 1400s, the Luzzago family built a canal to irrigate the cultivated fields.

Symbols

The banner of the commune is a cloth divided in red and blue.

Monuments and places of interest

Parish of San Michele Arcangelo

The Church of San Michele Arcangelo dates back to the 15th century and is located in Piazza Roma. It was built thanks to the work of the venerable Alessandro Luzzago and, later, Cardinal Carlo Borromeo ordered the citizens to complete the construction.

The building has three naves, a dome, a bell tower, and five altars. The presbytery is 6.50 meters wide while the total length of the church is 36 meters and the width is 14.50 meters. The paintings of the 'Via Crucis' of the Tiepolesque school, now exhibited at the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, were preserved there.

Worthy of note is the small statue of "San Rocco" by Stefano Lamberti, a sculptor from Brescia.
