Welcome to Civitella del Lago

It's easily accessible from the SS448 Todi-Baschi road and is about a 30-minute drive from Todi and Orvieto. Its proud inhabitants call themselves Civitellesi.
History of Civitella del Lago
The history of Civitella del Lago dates back to the ancient city of "Vindinio dei Bindi," a densely populated area with thriving agriculture during the Roman era. Later on, the territory was named "Massa Bindi" and consisted of castles in the area that defended the territory of Todi. In 1270, one of the first communal demesnes was established here, on land acquired by the Ospedale della Carità di Todi. The Fredi family, from Todi, took possession of the castle in the 13th century and in 1474, the Atti family succeeded them. Under their rule, a Council of Elders was established. During the Napoleonic period, the Massa area was separated from Todi, forming the municipality of Baschi.
Economy of Civitella del Lago
Civitella del Lago's economy is based on agriculture, wood collection, and agritourism. In 1995, the Tiber River Park was established, covering an area of 7,925 hectares, from Monte Castello di Vibio to the WWF oasis in Alviano. This area is known for hosting the restaurant of the celebrated chef Gianfranco Vissani. Additionally, since 1982, Civitella del Lago has been hosting the National "Ovo Pinto" Egg-painting Show and Contest, which showcases the ancient and refined peasant tradition of painting chicken eggs during Easter.
