Origins of the name
The name Basaluzzo could derive from "Basiligutia", which refers to the citation of a basilica near the town, but it could also be traced back to "Bis Lucum", meaning "between the woods".
History
Basaluzzo is an ancient locality mentioned in a diploma from 981, with which Emperor Otto II granted feudalism to the San Salvatore di Pavia monastery. Later, the town passed for a long period under the dominion of the Duchy of Milan, to then be bought by the town of Alessandria in 1249. In 1706 it became part of the Savoyard dominions and in 1799 it was the scene of a bloody clash between France and Austria-Russia.

In the town of Basaluzzo there are various monuments worth seeing, including the parish church of Sant'Andrea, dating back to the 15th century, and the Castle of Clarefuentes, characterized by a massive tower.
Society
If you want to know the demographic evolution of the town, you must know that Basaluzzo has always been predominantly agricultural, with cultivation of wheat, corn and Vitis vinifera. Starting from the 90s, thanks to industrialization, the town saw the birth of plants for the production of sucrose, tiles and other building products, companies of mechanical construction, goldsmiths, processing of aluminum and glass and finally plants for water treatment. In addition, Basaluzzo is home to Lloyd Sardegna, a maritime navigation company.
Culture
If you find yourself in Basaluzzo in August, do not miss the Country Dinner on August 14th and 15th to celebrate San Gioacchino (August 17th), the patron saint of the town.
Economy
As mentioned, the economy of Basaluzzo is predominantly agricultural, but in recent years the town has become an industrial center and in fact there is a strong industrialization that has led to the creation of plants for the production of various products.
Infrastructure and transport
If you want to reach Basaluzzo, you can take the local bus that connects Alessandria, Bosco Marengo and Novi, operated by the ARFEA company. In the past, the city was home to a railway plant, although today it is only usable for special events.
