Physical geography

Origins of the name

History
During Roman civilization, Barzio was passed through by the famous "Via Spluga," a Roman road that connected Milan to Lindau, passing through the Spluga Pass. During the medieval period, the "Civic and Criminal Statutes of the Valsassinese Community" were in force, which contributed to the town's growth. In the 16th century, the population consisted of just over three hundred inhabitants. Later, with the economic and social improvement of the population and the advent of mass tourism, numerous villas and condominiums appeared.
