Barzana
Welcome to Barzana!
Hello everyone, welcome back to my tourist guide! Today I will talk about a small town in Lombardy, Barzana. With its 1994 inhabitants, this locality between the Imagna Valley and the San Martino Valley will surprise you with its history and the beauties it offers.
History
Like many Italian territories, Barzana also has a very ancient history. The area was inhabited by the Ligurians, then by the Celts and Etruscans, until the arrival of the Roman Empire. During this period, an important communication road was built, which contributed to the development of settlements along the territory.
Later, thanks to the arrival of the Lombards, Barzana became part of the Duchy of Bergamo, then passed to the Franks and became a beneficium. Then, in the fourteenth century, it was involved in the struggle between Guelphs and Ghibellines. Starting from the fifteenth century, the town came under the dominion of the Republic of Venice, then fell under the control of the Cisalpine Republic, the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom and finally the Kingdom of Italy.
Symbols
Like many Italian municipalities, Barzana also has a coat of arms and a gonfalon. The river depicted in the coat of arms refers to the Lesina watercourse, a tributary of the Brembo, while the tower alludes to the original nuclei of Barzana, Arzenate, and Casavoglio. The wheat ears and the grape bunch represent the main products of local agriculture, while the small hill recalls the position of the village on the hills of the San Martino Valley.
Society
The population of Barzana has undergone demographic changes over the years, but it remains a municipality close to nature, with a strong vocation for agriculture and livestock.
Monuments and places of interest
One of the main attractions of Barzana is the Church of San Rocco, built in the seventeenth century. This religious building houses a good number of high-quality paintings, which you can admire during your visit.
In short, if you are looking for a destination different from usual, with a strong historical and landscape imprint, Barzana could be the right choice for you. Keep following me for other tourist guides to Italian beauties!
